Bringing Family Values to a Global Energy Market
14 August 2025
We still have to pinch ourselves when we think back to our humble beginnings in 2005. Our founder, John Phipps MBE, established the company with a handful of skilled operators and a clear mission: work together as a team to deliver the highest-quality service, solve our clients’ toughest asset maintenance challenges and constantly innovate. That spirit remains at the heart of everything we do.
What started as a small family-run venture in Hawarden, North Wales has grown into a globally recognised leader in mechanical cleaning, intelligent pigging inspection and integrity advisory services. From our UK Technology Centre and Americas Operations Centre in Houston, TX, we now serve clients across Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America and beyond.
Over the past two decades, we’ve:
-
Pioneered the combined service of mechanical cleaning and intelligent pigging, streamlining operations and minimising downtime for our clients.
-
Invested relentlessly in innovation – from our early Smart Pigs to our groundbreaking fifth-generation tools – enabling cleaner, safer and more efficient operations.
-
Expanded globally while keeping our production and design in-house, ensuring the quality, reliability and flexibility our clients trust.
-
Diversified into new sectors, including renewables, where we’ve developed the world’s smallest untethered Intelligent Pig for challenging applications such as solar steam plants.
Our success is built on the dedication of our people, from those who joined in the early days and are still with us, to new team members bringing fresh ideas and expertise. As a company grows, it can be difficult to maintain the original family values upon which it was founded, but this is something we work hard to retain both internally and with our clients.
This year we introduced “The CB Way” which is designed to outline the values we expect each member of our team to aspire to in every aspect of their work.
Integrity is at the heart of everything we do, whether that’s how we conduct ourselves internally or delivering operations on site. We have high expectations of our team and equip our operators with the skills and knowledge they need in order to perform to the best of their ability.
If we make a mistake, we fix it. If we can’t fix it straight away, we make a plan and communicate that to all parties involved. We move mountains to ensure we deliver a smooth service and our team are ready to go above an beyond to make this happen.
This commitment to quality and integrity is also reflected in our identity. Our company colour, British Racing Green, was chosen by our founder as a nod to the heritage of British engineering excellence and the nation’s tradition of exporting world-class mechanical design to the world. For us, it represents the “best of British” values – precision, reliability and craftsmanship – combined with a willingness to innovate and adapt. It’s a small detail, but like everything we do, it’s there for a reason.
Whether in Chester or Houston, our teams are united by the same commitment – solving problems, innovating new solutions, and delivering exceptional results for our clients.
As we mark our 20-year anniversary, we’re excited about the future. We know there’s still so much to do – pushing the boundaries of our technology, expanding into new regions and supporting the energy transition by partnering with new customers in the renewable sector.
However and wherever we operate, our family ethos travels with us.
If you’ve worked with Cokebusters over the past two decades, we’d be hugely grateful if you could share your experience in a quick Google review.
Your feedback helps us continue to grow, innovate and deliver world-class service.
